Under State Government legislation, cat registration across the Region is mandatory from 12 December 2010.
It would be in your interests as a cat owner to have attached to your cat an identification disc, which contains your name, address and telephone number. These may be purchased from a number of outlets including pet shops, hardware stores and Vet clinics. The identification will enable the prompt return of your cat to you should it wander from your property.
Cats must be kept behind an adequate enclosure that prevents the cat from wandering. Persons impacted by straying cats have the ability to privately impound any cat they find on their property. This right applies to either daylight or night time hours. In addition Local Law penalties have been implemented to address the problems of wandering cats.
